Your Decision
What is the greatest decision you'll ever have to make?
It's not what career path you will follow in life. It's not about buying a home or where you will live out your life on earth. Your investments for your future finances and retirement are not at the top of the list either. It's not even whom you will marry and spend this life with, although that is very important.
No, none of these are at the top of the list of important decisions in your life.
The most important decision you will make is where you will spend eternity. You see, everyone will exist forever somewhere. This life you are given is the only chance you have to choose where you will be for the rest of eternity.
There are only two options. We are offered eternity in Heaven, or rejecting that, we choose eternity in Hell.
God is not vindictively sending people to Hell. He wants all people to be saved. The Bible says God is "longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9
Man is sinful and is already bound towards Hell. Our forefather Adam chose that path for us all when he sinned against God in the Garden of Eden. Because man rejected God in Eden, all men are sinful creatures. We are dead in sin in our natural state.
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Romans 3:10 as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
God is perfectly Holy, therefore, neither sin nor sinfulness can enter into His presence. Everything we do is tainted by our sin nature, our inherent sinfulness.
Isaiah 64:6a But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;
Because of this, we cannot come to God through good works of charity or kindness or hard work and honesty. No matter what we do in our own effort we are still a sinner, infinitely separated from God. On top of that, we continue sinning in our own ways and in rebellion against God. This is a terrible place to be and demands an terrible price to be paid. The penalty for sin is death and eternity in Hell, but it is a penalty the sinner has earned in his or her own lifetime by their own action:
Romans 6:23a For the wages of sin is death;
But there is Good News! That verse ends in a sunburst of hope:
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Even more, God told us through His word that:
Romans 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Jesus paid the entire price for our sins on the cross of Calvary. My sins and yours are paid for entirely and completely. However, this gift only applies if you accept it. That means fully accepting Him and His gift of salvation by admitting you are a sinner to Him and repenting of your sins and literally asking Him to save you.
If you believe the Gospel "that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Cor 15:3b-4 then you can receive the gift of eternal life through Him. It's through faith and free by His Grace:
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast.
What must you do to be saved? God has said that if you call upon Him, He WILL save you.
Romans 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Simply and earnestly go before God in prayer and acknowledge that you are a sinner in need of salvation; that you know Jesus died to pay the price of your sin; and that you believe on Him to save you.
